IMPLEMENTER SELECTION

Selection Criteria

A typical GOLD implementer is a youth development organisation (non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations, faith-based organisations) that is already working with adolescents within communities.

To implement GOLD Peer Education, an organisation must have adequate infrastructure to support the programme. For some organisations that decide to implement the GOLD peer education programme, not all these capacities will be fully developed. Support will be provided to enable organisations to move towards having the following profile:

  • The organisation has a history of and a passion for youth development.
  • The organisation is a registered non-profit organisation.
  • The organisation has a clearly stated mission and vision and delivery of the peer education programme supports the achievement of the organisation’s mission.
  • There is a clear understanding of the needs within the community and how the GOLD peer education programme will help to address these needs.
  • Members of the organisation engage actively with other community stakeholders (e.g. police, clinics, other non-profit organisations) and the organisation is seen as a youth development agency by the community.
  • The organisation fulfils the role of a non-governmental organisation, lobbying and advocating for change as they see fit. There is an active and effective governance body (e.g. Board of Directors, Management Committee) that oversees the policy, strategy, resources and governance of the organisation.
  • There is an effective management structure within the organisation to ensure that work, people and resources are well managed.
  • There is a history of resource mobilisation and an ability to raise funds to cover the costs of running the GOLD programme.
  • There is a demonstrated ability to manage and account for funds received and spent.
  • There are established cycles of strategic and annual planning – both the development and implementation of plans.
  • There is an ability to measure the effectiveness of the GOLD peer education programme within the community.
